Technician jailed for stealing RM3,310 from vending machine

Kota Kinabalu: A technician was jailed eight months by the Magistrate Court, Friday, for stealing money from his workplace.

Johnny Jasman, 42, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farah Farriza Wan Ghazali, to stealing RM3, 310 from the Wawa Pink vending machine belonging to Matthew Chung at Imag,ont Dec 29, 2023 at 1.40 am.

He was charged under Section 381 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years and a liability of a fine, on conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Batrisyia Mohd Khusri informed the court that upon reviewing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings, Johnny was seen pilfering money during maintenance between December 29, 2023, and January 2.

The court ordered Johnny to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

In another court, two men were jailed 10 months for having syabu.

Faizal Era, 27, and Mohd Ridzuan Othman, 31, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to having the syabu on May 2, last year at 1.30pm at a garage in Kampung Keliangau, Manggatal.

They were charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000, up to five years in jail, or both, on conviction.

DPP Batrisyia told the court that during an operation, police arrested two men and found two cigarette boxes containing syabu.

Duty Counsel Lim Ming Zhoong requested a lenient sentence for both.
