MANILA, Philippines — Fighting Maroons, indeed.

The University of the Philippines crawled back from a 0-2 set deficit and a 9-13 disadvantage in the fifth frame to upset the defending champion National University, 16-25, 16-25, 25-22, 31-29, 18-16, in the UAAP Season 88 women's volleyball tournament at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion Saturday evening.

The Fighting Maroons held on repeatedly before Bie Bansil clinched the match for them with a quick attack, dealing the Lady Bulldogs their first loss of the season.

UP improved to 3-1, dragging NU to the same record as they share the second spot behind the 3-0 La Salle.
