Trader charged with molesting two women

Kota Kinabalu: A 20-year-old trader was charged at the Magistrate’s Court, Thursday, with two counts of molesting two women.

Muhd Azim Shah Shajahan pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to both charges.

On the first count, Azim allegedly molested a 25-year-old woman at 9.10am on Sept 8 in front of a lift at Unit 6, Seventh floor of Block H, at Aeropod Commercial Square.

Azim, on the second count, was accused of committing a similar offence to another woman, 38, at 9.16am on the same day in front of an office at Unit 6, Seventh Floor, Block H, of the same building.

Each charge under Section 354 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to 10 years, or with fine or with whipping or with any two of such punishments, on conviction.

Jessica set Oct 18 and 19 for pre-trial case management and released Azim, who was represented by counsel PJ Perira, on a bail of RM2,300 in two sureties on each charge.

In another case, two siblings were sentenced to 15 months jail for having a stolen helmet worth RM100.

Mohd Rizam Ambran, 30, and Mohd Rizal Ambran, 34, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at 11am on Sept 12 at Kg Sembulan here.

They were charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both, on conviction.

Inspector Albert Basiri prosecuting, applied for a deterrent sentence on the grounds that both accused has one conviction record on a similar offence.

In another case, a 23-year-old man was jailed six months for trying to steal a motorcycle.

Among Ajimudin admitted to attempting to steal the machine belonging to the University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) at 5.10am on Sept 9 at Block A, UMS Medical Faculty near here.

The charge was framed under Section 379A/511 of the Penal Code.
