Tremors hit Batu Pahat after 4.4-magnitude quake off Johor coast

TREMORS were felt in Batu Pahat and surrounding areas after a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck waters off the district at 4.55pm today, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said.

The epicentre was located 27km southwest of Batu Pahat at a depth of 10km, it said.

MetMalaysia said it would continue monitoring the situation.

The department said Peninsular Malaysia can experience local earthquakes associated with active faults, while tremors along the west coast can also originate from major earthquakes in Sumatra and the Andaman Sea. - September 22, 2026
