SANDAKAN: A man involved in unlicensed money lending activities was arrested at the Town Bus Terminal here.

The man was detained under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951.

Several items, including borrower cards and a sum of loan money, were seized.

Sandakan District Police Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the District Commercial Crime Investigation Department conducted Operation Vulture at 1pm on Tuesday to combat the activities of unlicensed money lenders or “Ah Longs” in the area.

“The operation is part of the police’s continuous commitment in tackling criminal activities involving unlicensed money lending,” he said.

The public is advised to only take loans through registered financial institutions and licensed money lending companies to avoid becoming victims of fraud or threats from irresponsible parties.
