SANDAKAN: A wooden stilt house at Jambatan 18, Kampung Sim Sim, collapsed and fell into the sea at 9:25am on Thursday.

District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Severinus Sainkui said 12 people were occupying the house, all of whom were reported safe.

He said the department received an emergency call at 9:40am before rushing to the scene.

“The house, measuring 60 feet by 90 feet, suffered nearly 90 per cent damage,” he said.

Meanwhile, a Tanjung Papat State Assembly Service Centre team arrived at the scene soon after receiving reports of the incident.

Tanjung Papat Assemblyman, Datuk Frankie Poon, said his team immediately contacted the Fire and Rescue Department, the Malaysian Civil Defence Department, and Sabah Electricity to ensure the safety of the area and conduct further investigations.

“I have instructed my team to monitor the victims’ condition, identify immediate needs, and provide initial assistance as required.

“Our priority is to ensure the victims’ well-being while minimising safety risks. We also appreciate the swift response of all rescue agencies and the concern shown by the local community in assisting,” he said in a statement.

He said his team would continue to monitor the situation and ensure that all victims receive the necessary support.
