Kota Kinabalu: Ten Chinese nationals were each fined RM10,000 or sentenced to six months’ jail for overstaying in the State after their Social Visit Passes expired.

The accused, aged between 28 and 57, are Chang Li, Zhou Qing, Chen Kaihong, Cui Zhongfei, Dong Kai, Feng Mingcai, Hua Jianmin, Ma Qingzheng, Qu Weiwei, and Wu Libin.

They pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain to charges under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155), which carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 or up to five years’ imprisonment, or both.

The men were arrested on September 17 between 2.21am and 2.40am at workers’ housing at the Shaanxi Construction Station and container houses near the junction of Jalan Tampios Paus in Kg Nunuk Ragang, Jalan Ranau-Sandakan.

They had overstayed in the state for periods ranging from four to 26 days beyond the expiry of their Social Visit Passes.

All ten paid the fines and were referred to the Immigration Department for deportation.

Prosecuting Officer Chin Tze Mee from the Immigration Department represented the prosecution.
