Kota Kinabalu: Sabah saw a decrease of Covid-19 cases to 2,174 on Monday from 2,874 the day earlier as more backlogs were cleared, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun..

“Nevertheless, the percentage of sporadic infections still remains high at 62.47 per cent and can cause cases to surge at any time.

“The decrease of cases is due to backlogs that have been cleared in a few districts such as Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Putatan,” he said in a statement, Monday.

Eleven deaths were recorded, with three in Tawau, two in Penampang and one each in Ranau, Nabawan, Kudat, Beaufort, Keningau and Kota Kinabalu. No new clusters were identified. Masidi said Kota Kinabalu continued to the top the list with 555 cases, followed by Penampang (252), Putatan (223), Papar (204), Tuaran (181), Keningau (105) and Kota Belud (101).

“A total of 17 districts recorded two-digit cases, two districts recorded single-digit cases while Semporna was the sole district that did not record any new cases on Monday,” he said.

Of the 2,174 caseload, 246 involved children aged 11 and below of which 121 were children below five.

Masidi said the majority of cases are mild infections, with 2,150 out of 2,174 cases being category one and two infections, which is 98.9 per cent.

“Eight cases are in category three, 10 in category four and six in category five,” he added.

Some 4,312 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital, while 1,739 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities.

On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 11,513 individuals were vaccinated on Feb 27, of which 8,872 were adults while 83 were teenagers and 2,558 were children.

As of Feb 27, he said a total of 2,413,373 individuals have completed both doses, of which 77.29 per cent were adults, while 2,503,412 have gotten their first dose, of which 78.01 per cent were adults.

Masidi added that a total of 338,778 teenagers have received their first dose, while 313,653 have completed both doses, which is 73.59 per cent of the teenage population. A total of 45,381 children have received their first dose.
