Man gets 10 months for disposing stolen bracelet

Kota Kinabalu: A 44-year-old unemployed man was jailed 10 months’ by the Magistrate’s Court for disposing of a stolen gold bracelet.

Adnan Gemok pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence by selling the jewellery to Kedai Emas Manggatal, at Manggatal town at 3pm on Dec 10, 2021.

The charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction.

The court heard from the prosecution that the jewellery was among items reported stolen from a house at Kg Gunding, Kota Belud on Dec 7, last year.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man was jailed nine months for having stolen gold jewellery.

Saadan Saharul admitted before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to keeping a gold bangle and two gold rings belonging to Chung Tze Lin at 3am on Dec 10, 2021 at a house in Kg Darau, Manggatal.

The offence under Section 411 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to five years and liability of a fine or both, on conviction.

According to the prosecution, the jewellery was among reported missing from a house at Taman Cantek, Luyang that had been broken into on Nov 5, last year.

Saadan, who was not represented, requested leniency and wanted to serve his sentence from the date of his arrest adding that he has a wife. The prosecution applied for an adequate sentence.

Saadan was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.
