
Kota Kinabalu: A 56-year-old unemployed man was on Thursday fined RM3,000 or two months jail for obstructing a policeman from discharging his duty early this year.
Ngu Sing Keng pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence towards Corporal Mohd Radzi Hussin by disobeying the order to stop the car he was driving at 12.02pm on Jan 10, 2022 at Jalan Teluk Likas, in front of SK St Agnes.
The court heard from the prosecution that prior to the incident, police patrol was chasing after Ngu’s car following public information on his alleged involvement in the theft of a car.
Ngu sped off when the police ordered him to pull over which endangers the police and public safety.
Ngu was later arrested in front of the school.
He was charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine of up to RM10,000 or both, on conviction.
In another case, a 29-year-old man was sentenced to eight months’ jail for committing mischief.
Datu Futra Dato Hadi admitted to cutting the cables at One Sulaman building, Manggatal at 3am on Dec 18, 2021.
He committed the offence along with two other accused, Abdul Razak Jaidin and Azlan Akmalrul, both 23, who had on April 20 jailed eight months each for the offence.
According to the prosecution, Futra and the two were caught red-handed by the security personnel while cutting the cable in the building which was still under renovation and subsequently handed over to the police.
Futra confessed that they wanted to sell the cable for money.
The charge under Section 431A of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both, on conviction.
The court ordered Futra, who was on bail, to serve the jail term from Thursday.
