MANILA, Philippines — The northeast monsoon or "amihan" and localized thunderstorms will affect the country on Thursday with no storm expected at least until the weekend, the state weather bureau said earlier in the day.

Weather specialist Chenel Dominguez of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said cloudy skies with light rains would be likelyover Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon.

Mindanao, Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte will be experiencing partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the localized thunderstorms, the state-run weather agency said.

Flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms are possible in these areas, according to Pagasa’s 5 a.m. advisory.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, meanwhile, will likely have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains also due to amihan, it added.
