MANILA, Philippines – Several areas in the Visayas and Luzon would be experiencing cooler, drier winds caused by the northeast monsoon, locally known as ‘amihan’, particularly in the early morning and nighttime, the national weather bureau said on Wednesday.

Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), meanwhile, said in a 5 a.m. briefing that it has not spotted any weather disturbance forming or entering within the country’s area of responsibility.

Aurelio said another weather system shear line—the convergence of hot and cold air—has been affecting Caraga and Southern Leyte, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain and isolated thunderstorms.

Flash floods and landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rain are possible in these areas, according to the Pagasa forecaster.

The northeast monsoon would bring overcast skies with light rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and Quezon.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and the rest of Visayas would likely have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains also due to the same weather system, the state-run weather agency said.

Parts of Mindanao would experience partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the localized thunderstorms, it added.
