Baterbonia home, Adili heads to Nigeria

THE Ateneo de Manila University gave updates on the final journeys of players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili on Saturday.

Baterbonia was brought home to Talacogan, Agusan del Sur, where he lies in state with his family and community and will remain there until his burial on Wednesday, June 24.

“Ateneo de Manila is working closely with Ateneo de Davao, coordinated the arrangements for Bobet’s return home and continues to accompany the Baterbonia family during this time,” the university said.

“Discussions are ongoing on the support that may be most helpful to the family, including educational assistance for Bobet’s six siblings, who are expected to relocate to Davao and enroll at Ateneo de Davao University under scholarship support,” they added.

Meanwhile, preparations are under way in bringing home the remains of the late Blue Eagles cager Adili to his home country.

In a statement, the university said it is a commitment to Adili and his family to bring his remains home to his native Nigeria.

“As part of the University’s continuing commitment to Divine Adili and his family, preparations are under way for the repatriation of Divine’s remains to Nigeria, where he will be laid to rest in accordance with his family’s wishes,” the university said on Saturday.

Two Ateneo representatives will accompany Adili on his final journey.

“One of them, Fr. Munching de Guzman SJ, has begun the necessary preparations for travel, including obtaining the required vaccinations and medications for entry into Nigeria,” Ateneo said.

“While documentary and travel arrangements are still being finalized in coordination with Divine’s family and the relevant authorities, preparations continue to ensure that Divine’s return home is carried out with dignity, care and respect,” they added.

Baterbonia and Adili died in Aurora during an offseason training session.
