Classes suspended in Metro Manila, other parts of Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — Several local government units in Luzon suspended classes on Friday due to the southwest monsoon and the effects of "Maymay," which the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) downgraded into a lowpressure area (LPA) earlier in the day

In Metro Manila, face to face classes in public and private schools in all levels has been suspended in the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Manila, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Paranaque, Pasay, Pateros, Taguig and Valenzuela.

Classes in all levels, meanwhile, have been suspended in Las Pinas, Marikina, and San Juan cities, while Quezon City only suspended face to face classes for public preschool to senior high school.

Several provinces have also declared class suspensions: Benguet, for all levels, and Baguio City from pre-school to senior high school both public and private. 

In Central Luzon, Bataan has declared a provincewide class suspension across all levels both public and private, as well as the cities of Angeles and Olongapo.

Class suspensions were also declared in the towns of Angat, Balagtas, Baliwag City, Bocaue, Bulakan, Bustos, Calumpit, Dona Remedios Trinidad, Guiguinto, Hagonoy, Malolos City, Marilao, Meycauayan City, Norzagaray, Obando, Pandi, Paombong, Plaridel, Pulilan, San Jose del Monte City, San Ildefonso, San Miguel, San Rafael, and Santa Maria in Bulacan; Apalit, Arayat, Bacolor, Candaba, San Fernando City, Floridablanca, Guagua, Lubao, Mabalacat City, Macabebe, Magalang, Masantol, Mexico, Minalin, Porac, San Luis, San Simon, Sta. Ana, Sta. Rita, Santo Tomas, and Sasmuan in Pampanga; La Paz in Tarlac; and Botolan, Cabangan, Castillejos, Iba, San Felipe, San Marcelino, San Narciso, and Subic in Zambales.

In Southern Luzon, Cavite and Laguna suspended classes in all levels in public and private schools, but Laguna has opted to shift to alternative delivery mode instead.

Several towns in Batangas also declared class suspensions in all levels both public and private: San Pascual, San Jose, Nasugbu, Lian, Bauan, Balayan, Calatagan, Balete, Talisay, Laurel, Cuenca, Calaca City, Rosario, Padre Garcia, Mabini, Tuy, San Juan, Alitagtag, Mataasnakahoy, Taysan, Malvar, and Taal.

In Rizal, Antipolo, Cainta, Cardona, Montalban, Morong, San Mateo, Tanay, and Teresa suspended classes in all levels, while Taytay suspended classes from daycare up to senior high school for both public and private schools.
