Cloudy skies, scattered rains and thunderstorms forecast in Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasted cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Metro Manila and other areas because of the southwest monsoon.

Based on its 24-hour forecast issued at 4 a.m. on Sunday, the other areas were the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Western Visayas, central Luzon except Bataan and Zambales, Mimaropa except Occidental Mindoro, Rizal, Laguna, and Antique.

Pagasa forecasted occasional rains in Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro. In the weather advisory issued at 5 a.m. on Sunday, it forecasted 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall today in these five provinces. "Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall," it said.

As to all the above-mentioned areas including the ones grouped with Metro Manila, Pagasa said flash floods or landslides were possible because of moderate to at times heavy rains.

"Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms" was its forecast for the rest of Luzon and Visayas as well as for Mindanao. It said flash floods or landslides were possible "during severe thunderstorms."
