'Devastating' — M'sian Recalls How Her 33yo Friend Passed Away After Suffering From Persistent Migraines

A woman recently took to Threads to express her shock and sorrow of losing a longtime friend after the latter endured years of excruciating migraines.

The woman, Atiqah, later spoke at length with WeirdKaya over the series of events that led to her friend’s deteriorating condition and eventual passing.

Had migraines for 3 years

According to Atiqah, she had known her friend Huda since high school and was fully aware of her ongoing issues with migraines.

“She had been experiencing migraines for around three years and at the same time also had sinus issues. Huda would often take Panadol, switch off the lights and sleep in a dark room until she felt better.”

But when 2026 rolled around, Huda’s migraines became more severe, to the point where she couldn’t tolerate it anymore despite having a high pain tolerance.

Atiqah also said Huda was one who didn’t like going to clinics or hospitals, which made it difficult for those around her to know exactly how serious her condition was.

Sudden passing

Unable to endure the pain which made her feel as though “her head was going to burst”, Huda went to the hospital to the CT scan and was told there was internal bleeding from a ruptured blood vessel.

Atiqah said Huda was then placed in a medically induced coma but never woke up again. She was only 33.

It was devastating. When I first knew she was in the hospital and in a medically induced coma, I thought there was still hope for her recovery. So when I heard she had passed away, it was difficult to process.”

Atiqah added that she shared Huda’s story on social media not to frighten others, but to remind the public to prioritise their health.

“At 33, you don’t really think about losing your friends. We’re at an age where we’re busy building our careers, planning our future, chasing our goals, taking care of our parents and the people around us. We always feel like we still have so much time.

“Huda’s passing made me realise how easily we normalise pain too. We tell ourselves, ‘Maybe I’m tired. Maybe it’s stress. Maybe I didn’t sleep enough. I’ll be okay after taking medication.’ Sometimes we’re so busy taking care of everything and everyone that we forget to take care of ourselves.”

‘Treasure your health’

Huda also implored Malaysians to not take their health for granted just because they’re still young.

“One thing Huda’s passing has really taught me is that we need to listen when our body is trying to tell us something. While not every headache means something serious, we shouldn’t keep normalising pain simply because we’ve experienced it before.

“If the pain keeps coming back, becomes more severe, feels different than usual, or reaches a point where you have to keep taking medication, lying in a dark room or changing your daily routine just to cope with it, please get yourself checked.

“Don’t wait until your body is screaming for help before you finally listen to it,” she pleaded.

Atiqah reminded others to always place their health first before anything else as it’s the one thing that cannot afford to be placed in the backburner for long.

Work can wait. Meetings can be rescheduled. Plans can be postponed. Your health may not always give you that same opportunity.

“If Huda’s story makes even one person stop dismissing their symptoms and seek medical attention earlier, then I hope her story can become a reminder for someone else to take better care of themselves.”

Atiqah also requested the public to send their condolences to Huda’s family so that Huda could enter the afterlife in peace.
