Kota Kinabalu: Two men were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here Friday with trafficking 50kg of syabu.
No plea was recorded from Yong Tze Yean, 45, and Tan Kae Shu, 46, after the charge was read to them before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus.
They were jointly accused of trafficking 50,000 grammes of syabu at 4.20pm, on Aug 25, in front of Borneo Noodle House, Jalan Bundusan, Beverly Hills Plaza, Penampang.
The charge was framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act and read with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
The offence carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, with at least 12 strokes of the cane, on conviction. The court fixed Oct 12 for mention and ordered the unrepresented duo to be further remanded.
Meanwhile, another man was charged with a similar offence.
Unemployed Bradley Oswald Leong, 28, was charged with trafficking 214.17 grammes of cannabis at 5pm, on Aug 24, in front of the Chicken Town building, Jalan Tombovo Ketiau, Putatan.
No plea was recorded from Bradley after the charge was read to him before Dzul Elmy.
He was also charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The court fixed Oct 2 for mention and ordered Bradley to be further remanded.
Earlier, the prosecution applied for another mention date for both cases pending the chemist’s reports and did not offer bail as the offence is non-bailable.
