MANILA, Philippines — The state weather agency said on Sunday that Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and the Visayas will have fair weather. Still, isolated downpours are likely during late afternoon or evening.

Weather specialist Veronica Torres of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a 5 a.m. briefing on the effects of a weakening northeast monsoon, locally known as ‘amihan.’

Meanwhile, Pagasa said Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands would likely have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the convergence of hot and cold air called the shear line.

It warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains in those areas.

In particular, amihan has also been affecting Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora, bringing overcast skies with light rains, said Pagasa forecaster Torres.

She added that the rest of Mindanao would be experiencing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies – winds that pass through the Pacific Ocean and carry humid, warm weather.
