
RANAU: A family of four who were trapped in their flooded house following hours of torrential rain were rescued on Thursday night.
District Fire and Rescue Department Chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said the incident happened in Kg Sedul 1, Ranau.

“We received a call at 9.35pm through the MERS999 line and rushed a team of five personnel along with a CFRT engine, led by operation commander Kamidin Rasim, to the scene.

Read more “Upon arrival at the location some 16km from the fire station, we found a family of two adults and two children trapped in their home.
“The fire brigade rescued the victims by bringing them to cross the flooded river using ropes and life jackets, and then sent them to their relatives’ home,” he said, adding after ensuring that there was no further danger, the operation ended at 11.22pm. Sharing his moment of panic and ordeal, Sani Digi @ Diki, 50, from Kg Kananapon, said the floodwaters surged swiftly.

“It was fortunate that all my family members were save,” said Sani who came back to scour for whatever was left in his house Friday morning.
Ridwan said all Fire and Rescue Department personnel are now in standby mode in facing the current flooding as well as soil erosion threats that are looming.
He urged residents to remain vigilant at all times of the weather and their surroundings, and be ready to evacuate if water level starts to rise.
“Keep important documents in one place (so that) it is easy to take out in case of an emergency,” he said, adding the villagers contact Bomba Ranau at 088-878779 round-the-clock or dial the emergency line 999 in case of flooding, cracks or landslides.
