
Kota Kinabalu: A Filipino illegal was jailed 10 months on Thursday for using a fake MyKad as his identification document.
Hashim Rahman, 21, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence on April 15, this year, at 11am, at Indah Permai here.
The facts of the case presented by the prosecution, stated that Hashim was detained by patrol police for behaving in a suspicious manner.
Hashim produced a dubious MyKad under the name of Mohammad Shahril Alatiff as his identification document when asked by the police to do so.
A further check in the police’s Integrated Police Reporting System (IPRS) found that the photo in the said document did not tally with the record in the National Registration Department.
Hashim was then arrested for having a fake document.
He was charged under Section 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 which carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine or up to RM20,000 or both, on conviction.
Hashim was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest and be referred to the Immigration Department after serving his sentence.
In another case, two men were penalised for committing a drug-related offence.
Erwan, 35, was jailed 10 months for having 0.4gm of syabu on Feb 8 here.
He was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years in jail, or both, on conviction.
Md Jasmin Sulaiman was jailed seven months for taking syabu.
Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years’ jail, on conviction.
