Manila Mayor clears retirement backlog

MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso on Tuesday released terminal leave benefits totaling over P173 million to retired city government workers, clearing the backlog.

"I'm really excited because this is well deserved," Domagoso said in Filipino and English at the ceremonial release of the benefits at the Bulwagang Villegas, telling the retirees that they worked hard.

The total amount of P173,669,852 was distributed to 260 people who had served for less than 10 years to over 40 years, a statement said.

"The Mayor noted that 80 percent of those receiving checks retired under his current term, while the remaining 20 percent had been waiting from previous administrations," it read.

As to future retirees, Domagoso vowed, "When you complete your clearances, you will have your check the next day."
