MANILA, Philippines — Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon on Wednesday said the city government has partnered with the Department of Energy (DOE) and other local government units to support the shift toward renewable energy in public facilities.
Biazon said Muntinlupa, together with mayors from Parañaque, Pateros, Caloocan, Malabon, and Las Piñas, signed a memorandum of agreement with the DOE for the implementation of the Solar Solutions for Government – Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in Public Building (SSG-ERPB) program.
The initiative aims to help local governments shift toward the use of solar energy and other energy-efficient technologies.
Under the agreement, participating LGUs will receive technical assistance and a demonstration project from the DOE for the installation of a 30 kWp grid-tied Solar PV System in public buildings they nominated.
Biazon said the program is part of the national government’s effort to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
He said Muntinlupa has been trying to lead by example by adopting renewable energy solutions in government facilities.
“For a long time, we have installed solar panels in our different facilities, and we are also using electric vehicles,” Biazon said.
Biazon said the city will continue supporting initiatives aimed at creating energy-efficient cities.
