We tried Rafw, Chef Jo and I.
Chef Jo is formerly the Chief Juror of Masterchef Malaysia television series for over five sessions with viewership of millions.
We arrived at 7 pm for food sampling on the last day of April. The restaurant is located at Sunway Damansara. It has an incredibly difficult name to pronounce, made up of four letters: R A F W.
We tried. After a few tries, the manager suggested we might as well call it "rough".

So, rough it is.
But it's a fine dining joint. Don't worry about the incongruity in the name and what the restaurant aspires to be. Just "raf raf" and eat the great food.
We are not Epicurean /ˌɛpɪkjʊˈriːən/, as in being a disciple or student of the Greek philosopher Epicurus. But we could qualify as persons devoted to sensual enjoyment, especially that derived from fine food and drink.
Yes, we are epicureans invited to test their fine culinary delights. They couldn't have asked for anyone better than Chef Jo himself.

And the food did not disappoint.
We are delighted in fact with a three-course meal well presented and expertly prepared by one of the partners who is formerly a lecturer in fine foods at UiTM culinary school. That's the guy with the first two initials in Rafw, Chef Razman.
Below I share with you some of the photos of fine food that Chef Jo carefully snapped as we were served by enthusiastic and polite staff.

The beef is wagyu or angus. They are aged dried for better taste and flavour. For your info: "Dry aging is when you take a piece of meat and put it into a controlled open-air environment to go through a flavour transformation. By exposing the meat to air, moisture is pulled out and the natural enzymes in the beef break the muscles down slowly over time, making it more tender. When the surface of the beef dries, it creates a crust over the muscle, but what’s inside stays moist and red".

The beef ribs served that night have been similarly treated, well seasoned and pan-seared to seal in the juice and oven baked. The result: you get hot piping real juicy steak! It's served with side dishes of young asparagus and mashed potatoes.
Before the main course, they offered us dates and nuts knowing that Chef Jo is still observing his post-Ramadan fasting. This is followed by gazpacho, appetiser and salad. Dessert is Portuguese tart ice cream and fresh strawberries.

Besides the two of us, Rafw also invited other celebrated chefs in the country for the evening. We had an opportunity to chat with Chef Zuber who owns a few restaurants in the KL Klang Valley and Chef Alex of Genting Hotels who drove down just for the event.
Everyone is impressed. We are sure you'll be too. Go check out Rafw today!
Rafw is open from 4 pm through 11 pm daily.
They are located at 21-1 JALAN PJU 5/3 DATARAN SUNWAY, Kota Damansara, 47810 Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan.
