A 16-year-old student died in a road accident near the sugar mill on the Jalandhar-Pathankot national highway on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Divyansh, son of Surinder Singh, a resident of Chak Allah Baksh village.
Divyansh was returning home from tuition on his e-scooty. When he reached the service road near the petrol pump in front of the sugar mill, his scooty collided with a tempo traveller. He suffered serious injuries in the accident.
After receiving information, an SSF team reached the spot and shifted the injured student to a private hospital in Mukerian. Due to his critical condition, doctors referred him to a hospital in Jalandhar. However, he died on the way.
The news of the youth’s death shattered his family, relatives and the neighbours.
Divyansh’s father, Surinder Singh, is working abroad.
The Mukerian police have taken both vehicles into custody and sent the body for post-mortem. A case has been registered against the tempo traveller driver, Kabir Ahmad, of Rajouri, Jammu, and further investigation is on.
Meanwhile, family members said it was the birthday of Divyansh’s younger brother and he was not willing to go for tuition in the morning, but was persuaded to go as the birthday celebrations were planned for the evening
Another youth killed in mishap
Hoshiarpur: A young man was killed and another injured in a road accident in the area today.
Pradeep Singh was going on a bike with his friend Gagandeep Singh. When they reached near the Lalpur village turn, a vehicle coming from the opposite side hit them. In the accident, Pradeep Singh died on the spot, while Gagandeep Singh was injured and taken to hospital for treatment. Cops reached the spot and started investigation. Both vehicles involved in the accident were taken in custody by the police.
