LAHAD DATU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a retired civil servant and a serving officer here in connection with a criminal breach of trust case involving RM303,000.
The suspects, a woman and a man aged between 40 and 60, were taken into custody at the Lahad Datu MACC office around noon on Tuesday after attending to provide their statements.
They were alleged to have abetted the offence between July 2020 and February 2021 while working at a government agency in Sabah.
Investigators believe the case involved the misuse of eight sets of payment vouchers meant for foreign workers, amounting to about RM303,000, although the workers concerned never received the money.
Sabah MACC Director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah confirmed the arrests and said investigations are continuing under Section 409 of the Penal Code.
