RANAU: A woman was fined RM100 by the Magistrate’s Court here after she was found to have RM1,029 in her bank account which was believed to have been obtained fraudulently.
Nurullisa binti Kasman, 22, was fined RM100, in default three days’ imprisonment, after being dealt with under Section 22A(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance (Sabah Cap. 80).
The case involved money deposited into her Alliance Bank account.
The court document stated that on Nov 10, 2025, at about 12.18pm, at Kampung Tomoi Baru, Jalan Segama, Lahad Datu, Nurullisa was found to have RM1,029 in the account belonging to her, which was believed to have been fraudulently obtained.
She was unable to provide a reasonable explanation as to how she came into possession of the money.
According to the case facts, the complainant, Elbersoll Lousip, 16, had on Nov 17, 2025, seen an advertisement on TikTok account “all parts” offering a motorcycle for sale.
The complainant then contacted the seller and negotiated to purchase a motorcycle described as a Combo Full Spec 63.
On Nov 18, at about 12.18pm, the complainant made a payment of RM1,029 through an online transaction to the Alliance Bank account registered under Nurullisa’s name.
The complainant was subsequently informed that the motorcycle had allegedly been sold to another party.
He was then asked to make an additional payment of RM1,197 as a security deposit, with a promise that the amount would be refunded after the transaction was completed.
The complainant made the additional payment but later cancelled the purchase after suspecting that he had been scammed.
He lodged a police report, which was subsequently referred to the Alliance Bank for further action and as a security measure concerning his personal information.
On March 3, 2026, at about 9.30am, a team from the Commercial Crime Investigation Division of the Lahad Datu District Police Headquarters arrested Nurullisa in connection with the case.
Investigations found that she was the registered owner of the Alliance Bank account. She claimed that her ATM card had been lost without her knowledge and that she had not lodged a police report concerning the loss.
She also failed to provide complete information about the individual who had received her ATM card.
Based on the investigation, authorities concluded that she had committed an offence under Section 22A(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance (Sabah Cap. 80) by failing to give a reasonable explanation to the investigating officer regarding the money in her account.
The court subsequently imposed the RM100 fine, with three days’ imprisonment in default.
