RANAU: A 58-year-old driver was fined RM5,500 by the Magistrate’s Court here after he was found guilty of driving without due care and attention, resulting in a collision with a motorcycle along the Ranau-Telupid road.
Padin bin Kait, of Kampung Telupid Batu 4, Telupid, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333).
The court imposed a RM5,500 fine, in default six months’ imprisonment, while the conviction was also ordered to be endorsed on the accused’s driving licence.
The charge stated that Padin had, at about 2pm on May 2, 2026, at KM31 Jalan Ranau-Telupid, Ranau, driven a Perodua Viva without due care and attention towards other road users.
According to the case facts, Padin was travelling from Kota Marudu towards Telupid when the incident occurred.
At the same time, the complainant, 17-year-old Bensree bin Kasun, was riding a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle from Kampung Matupang towards Pekan Ranau. The accident occurred when Padin was attempting to enter a right-hand junction.
The motorcycle was already close to the Perodua Viva when the car entered the junction without giving a proper right-turn signal, causing the motorcycle to collide with the vehicle.
As a result of the collision, Bensree suffered injuries to his right thigh and left leg. The teenager subsequently lodged a police report over the incident for further action, including a claim for insurance.
