Kota Kinabalu: Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association (KKJA) has appointed Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee as the association’s Life Advisor.
KKJA Chairman Jimmy Goh presented Yong with his appointment certificate during the association’s courtesy call at the latter’s office, here, recently.
Jimmy also extended the association’s Press Day gala dinner invitation to Yong.
KKJA will be holding its Press Day gala dinner at Bukit Padang’s Putera Ballroom on Aug 31.
Yong is a Nominated Assemblyman and Chairman of the Poic Sabah Sdn Bhd.
Yong served as the 10th Sabah Chief Minister from 1996 to 1998.
During the courtesy call, Jimmy and Yong exchanged pleasantries. Yong also displayed his “reporter bag” which he said was a gift from KKJA on May 23, 1998.
The bag has been preserved so well after 24 years that the new KKJA committee was in awe.
Yong also recalled the instance in which he won a suit against a newspaper in 1997 for unfair and false reporting. Following that, the compensation was given to KKJA and Sabah Journalists Association for its activities.
In the meanwhile, Jimmy thanked Yong for the assistance provided over the years to the association.
Jimmy also praised Yong for his enthusiasm towards education and public welfare.
“The KKJA is privileged to have Yong as our advisor. His presence will certainly improve the welfare of our members,” he said.
Also present were KKJA Secretary Teo Jinn Jiun, Treasurer Yvonne Ho, Liaison Officer Chu Ping Tyng, and Committee Member Lo Teck Loong.
