MANILA, Philippines — The Arellano University Chiefsquad reigned supreme anew.
Arellano University extended its dominance in the NCAA cheerleading competition as it clinched its seventh consecutive title on Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Wearing a bedazzled blue and white costume, the Chiefsquad made an impression right from the start and performed a near-perfect dance routine to score 231 points and retain the crown.
The team opened the performance with a school cheer, followed by a series of fast-paced stunts, highlighted by an intricate human pyramid formation.
The Chiefsquad may have faltered in the early part of the routine but recovered by putting on a great finale.
“It’s about the system and the program. The team that has a solid system and solid program. That’s the team that will win,” Arellano Chiefsquad head coach Lucky San Juan said.
Arellano has held the NCAA cheerleading crown since 2017.
“The highlight of this is our dedication and sportsmanship and the way that we all come together,” team captain Mia Gardoce.
For the fourth consecutive season, the NCAA Season 101 cheerleading podium finishers remained the same as University of Perpetual Help (221) bagged the silver and Colegio de San Juan de Letran (199.5) copped the bronze.
Arellano took home a grand prize of P100,000, while Perpetual Help and Letran pocketed P75,000 and P50,000, respectively.
Emilio Aguinaldo College placed fourth with 185.5 points and Jose Rizal University cracked the top 5 after scoring 162 points.
