MANILA, Philippines – Despite three prevailing weather systems, the entire archipelago would still have generally fair weather within the next 24 hours, the state-run weather agency said on Sunday.
Meanwhile, weather specialist Leanne Loreto of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a 5 a.m. briefing that at most one tropical cyclone would likely enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in February.
“In case [the cyclone enters PAR], it would be named ‘Basyang’,” the Pagasa forecaster said.
In the meantime, she said that Visayas, Bicol Region, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon would likely have cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the convergence of hot and cold air called shear line.
Mindanao and the rest of MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) would have partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, the national weather bureau said.
The northeast monsoon, locally known as ‘amihan,’ has been affecting Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, it added.
