Mayor warns of legal action over defamatory TikTok allegations

Kota Kinabalu: Mayor Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah (pic) has firmly refuted viral claims on TikTok alleging that he appointed Sharinaz Sabin as the Chief Executive Officer of Kinabalu Venture.

Clarifying the matter in a statement on Thursday, Sabin stressed that he had never made such an appointment and affirmed that Kinabalu Venture is not a subsidiary of the City Hall (DBKK), nor does it operate a "Jual Kereta Rakyat" initiative under the local authority.

He described the claims as false, defamatory, and a direct assault on his personal reputation and integrity that could mislead the community and erode public confidence in DBKK’s administration.

A police report has been lodged to enable formal investigations and further action by the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Sabin warned that DBKK takes the circulation of defamatory falsehoods involving himself, his family, and the council seriously, adding that legal action seeking damages or appropriate remedies will be pursued against the relevant account owners once their identities and involvement are verified.
