SHAH ALAM - Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Chew Seh Yong secured a commanding victory in the Lobak state seat in the Negeri Sembilan state election, according to official results announced by the Election Commission (EC).
Chew won the seat with 13,064 votes, defeating Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Kumar Paramasivam, who garnered 2,011 votes.
A total of 15,075 ballots were cast in the constituency, which has 23,079 registered voters.
The victory allowed Chew to retain the constituency despite PH losing control of the Negeri Sembilan state government to the Barisan Nasional-Perikatan Nasional (BN-PN) alliance.
The BN-PN alliance secured a two-thirds majority in the state election, ending PH’s two-term administration in Negeri Sembilan and continuing the momentum gained by BN following its strong performance in the Johor state election.
BN and PN’s victory was attributed by political analysts to factors including Malay vote consolidation, dissatisfaction towards PH at both state and federal levels, and the effectiveness of cooperation between Umno and Pas in preventing vote fragmentation.
Meanwhile, PH’s performance in areas such as Lobak indicated that the coalition continued to retain support among segments of voters, particularly in constituencies where its local representation and support base remained strong.
