Restaurant operators fined RM7,600

KENINGAU: Two restaurant operators were fined a total of RM7,600 by the Magistrate’s Court, here, Monday for failing to register their businesses with the Social Security Organisation (Socso) within the stipulated period.

Both employers committed the offences at their respective premises in 2025 by failing to comply with the requirement to register their businesses under Section 4 of the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 and Section 14(1) of the Employment Insurance System Act 2017 (Act 800).

The charges were framed under Section 94(g) of the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969, which provides for a fine of up to RM10,000, a jail term of up to two years, or both, on conviction.

Both employers pleaded guilty to the charges and were unrepresented.

The prosecution was conducted by Sabah Socso Prosecuting officer Flora Paulus.

Both employers paid their respective fines.

In a statement, Keningau Socso said the action reflected its continued commitment to ensuring all employers fulfilled their responsibility to register their businesses and workers with Socso.

It also urged employers who had yet to register and contribute to Socso to take the necessary action to ensure their workers received protection and welfare benefits in the event of work-related accidents or other mishaps.
